                    LEGISLATIVE BUDGET BOARD    Austin, Texas      FISCAL NOTE, 85TH LEGISLATIVE REGULAR SESSION            March 18, 2017      TO: Honorable Jodie Laubenberg, Chair, House Committee on Elections      FROM: Ursula Parks, Director, Legislative Budget Board     IN RE:HB1151 by Schofield (Relating to the deadline for returning a ballot voted by mail.), As Introduced    No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.  The bill would amend the Election code relating to the deadline for returning a ballot voted by mail. The bill would add that a ballot could arrive by 5 p.m. the day after election day if the carrier envelope was placed for delivery by mail or common or by contract carrier before election day. The bill would take effect September 1, 2017.  Local Government Impact No significant fiscal implication to units of local government is anticipated. The bill would amend the Election code relating to the deadline for returning a ballot voted by mail.
