The bill would amend the Government Code to require public accredited crime laboratories to complete analysis of sexual assault evidence as soon as practicable but not later than the 60th day after the date on which the evidence was received by the laboratory. The provisions of the bill would only apply to sexual assault evidence received on or after the effective date of the bill.This analysis assumes the costs and duties to implement the provisions of the bill could be absorbed within existing resources.The bill would take effect September 1, 2017. Local Government Impact No significant fiscal implication to units of local government is anticipated.
