The bill would amend the Government Code to repeal sections related to contributions and expenditures made in connection with a campaign for speaker of the House of Representatives. The bill would also remove the knowing acceptance of a contribution to a speaker candidate from an organization from the current list of Class A misdemeanor offenses. The provisions of the bill are not anticipated to have a significant fiscal impact.The bill would take effect immediately upon receiving A two-thirds majority vote in each house. Otherwise, the bill would take effect September 1, 2017. Local Government Impact The bill would repeal a class A Misdemeanor. A Class A misdemeanor is punishable by a fine of not more than $4,000, confinement in jail for a term not to exceed one year, or both. Lost revenue from reduced fines imposed and collected is not anticipated to have a significant fiscal impact.
