A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
AN ACT
relating to the publication of required notice by a political
subdivision in media other than a newspaper.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
SECTION 1. Chapter 2051, Government Code, is amended by
adding Subchapter E to read as follows:
SUBCHAPTER E. NOTICE BY POLITICAL SUBDIVISION BY PUBLICATION IN
MEDIA OTHER THAN NEWSPAPER
Sec. 2051.151. NOTICE BY PUBLICATION IN MEDIA OTHER THAN
NEWSPAPER. (a) A political subdivision may satisfy a requirement
in any other law to provide notice by publication in a newspaper by
publishing the notice in any other form of media that the political
subdivision determines will provide sufficient public notice,
including on the political subdivision's Internet website or an
Internet newspaper.
(b) A notice published in media other than a newspaper must
be published for the period required by law for the publication of
the notice in a newspaper.
SECTION 2. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives
a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as
provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this
Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this
Act takes effect September 1, 2017.
