LEGISLATIVE BUDGET BOARD Austin, Texas FISCAL NOTE, 85TH LEGISLATIVE REGULAR SESSION April 9, 2017 TO: Honorable Richard Peña Raymond, Chair, House Committee on Human Services FROM: Ursula Parks, Director, Legislative Budget Board IN RE:HB1533 by Farrar (Relating to the exclusion of certain resources in determining eligibility for the supplemental nutrition assistance program.), As Introduced No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated. The bill would amend Chapter 33 of the Human Resources Code to direct the Health and Human Services Commission (HHSC) to exclude certain resources in determining the eligibility for the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP). HHSC estimates there would be a minimal cost associated with technology modifications in the eligibility system. It is assumed that these technology costs could be absorbed within existing resources. All SNAP benefits are federally funded; therefore, there would be no additional cost to the state for an increased number of recipients receiving benefits. Local Government Impact No fiscal implication to units of local government is anticipated. Source Agencies:529 Health and Human Services Commission LBB Staff: UP, KCA, ER, ADe, RC, MH
