The bill would amend the Family Code to instruct the courts to construe gender-specific language as gender-neutral when necessary to implement the rights and duties of spouses or parents in a same-sex marriage. The bill would revise sections of the Family Code and the Health and Safety Code to eliminate certain gender-specific language and to reflect the existence of same-sex marriage. The Office of Court Administration and the Department of State Health Services have indicated that the provisions of the bill could be accomplished with existing resources. Local Government Impact No significant fiscal implication to units of local government is anticipated.
