                    LEGISLATIVE BUDGET BOARD    Austin, Texas      FISCAL NOTE, 85TH LEGISLATIVE REGULAR SESSION            April 10, 2017      TO: Honorable Jodie Laubenberg, Chair, House Committee on Elections      FROM: Ursula Parks, Director, Legislative Budget Board     IN RE:HB1707 by Swanson (Relating to political party signs for a primary election.), Committee Report 1st House, Substituted    No fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.  The bill would amend the Election Code relating to political party signs for a primary election. The bill would allow that a presiding judge or alternate presiding judge may post a sign at a polling place that identifies the political party and does not refer to a candidate or measure on the ballot.  The bill would repeal Section 172.127(a) of the Election Code. The Secretary of State assumes any additional work associated with implementing the provisions of the bill could be absorbed using existing resources. The bill would take effect September 1, 2017.
