                    LEGISLATIVE BUDGET BOARD    Austin, Texas      FISCAL NOTE, 85TH LEGISLATIVE REGULAR SESSION            May 24, 2017      TO: Honorable Joe Straus, Speaker of the House, House of Representatives      FROM: Ursula Parks, Director, Legislative Budget Board     IN RE:HB1735 by Faircloth (Relating to certain election officers.), As Passed 2nd House    No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.  The bill would amend the Election Code relating to certain election practices.The Secretary of State, Office of Court Administration, and Department of Criminal Justice assumeany additional work associated with implementing the provisions of the bill could be absorbedusing existing resources.This analysis assumes the provisions of the bill addressing felony sanctions for criminal offenseswould not result in a significant impact on state correctional agencies. Local Government Impact The Texas Association of Counties (TAC) anticipates no significant fiscal impact to counties from the provisions of the bill.  A Class A misdemeanor is punishable by a fine of not more than $4,000, confinement in jail for a term not to exceed one year, or both. Costs associated with enforcement, prosecution and confinement could likely be absorbed within existing resources.
