                    LEGISLATIVE BUDGET BOARD    Austin, Texas      FISCAL NOTE, 85TH LEGISLATIVE REGULAR SESSION            April 2, 2017      TO: Honorable Joe Moody, Chair, House Committee on Criminal Jurisprudence      FROM: Ursula Parks, Director, Legislative Budget Board     IN RE:HB1935 by Frullo (Relating to the carrying of certain knives.), As Introduced    No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.  The bill would amend the Education Code and the Penal Code as they relate to the punishment for certain weapons offenses involving a knife. Under the provisions of the bill, schools would be required to expel a student for conduct involving certain types of knives and certain knives would no longer be defined as illegal. The Texas Education Agency, Texas Department of Public Safety, Office of the Governor, Texas Department of Criminal Justice, and Office of Court Administration do not anticipate a significant fiscal impact from implementing the provisions of the bill.  This analysis assumes the provisions of the bill addressing felony sanctions would not result in a significant impact on the demand for state correctional resources.  The bill would take effect September 1, 2017 and apply only to an offense committed on or after the effective date of the Act. Local Government Impact According to Tarrant County Juvenile Services, no fiscal impact is anticipated.
