The bill would amend the Education Code related to the model training curriculum and required training for certain school district peace officers and school resource officers. The bill would change the enrollment threshold at which a school district must adopt a training policy for any school district peace officers and school resource officers. The bill would also amend the Occupations Code to change the requirements related to education and training programs for certain officers. The bill would take effect September 1, 2017. The Texas Commission on Law Enforcement and the Texas Education Agency indicate that any costs associated with the bill could be absorbed with existing resources. Local Government Impact The Texas Education Agency estimates that school districts with enrollments larger than 5,000 may incur certain costs to implement the provisions of the bill, but the costs would be nominal.
