The bill would amend the Education Code relating to the participation of public state colleges in the Jobs and Education for Texans (JET) Grant Program. The bill would allow public state colleges to become an eligible recipient of JET grant funds. This analysis assumes that the allowance of grants to public state colleges would have a minimal effect on the overall level of awards. Based on information provided by the Texas Workforce Commission and Texas State University System, this analysis assumes the duties and responsibilities associated with implementing the provisions of the bill could be accomplished by utilizing existing resources. The bill would take effect immediately upon receipt of a two-thirds vote of all members elected to each house; otherwise, the bill would take effect on September 1, 2017. Local Government Impact No fiscal implication to units of local government is anticipated.
