A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
AN ACT
relating to the issuance of "Back the Blue" specialty license
plates.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
SECTION 1. Subchapter G, Chapter 504, Transportation Code,
is amended by adding Section 504.668 to read as follows:
Sec. 504.668. BACK THE BLUE LICENSE PLATES. (a) The
department shall issue specialty license plates that include a thin
blue line and the words "Back the Blue."
(b) After deduction of the department's administrative
costs, the remainder of the fee for issuance of the license plates
shall be deposited to the credit of an account created by the
comptroller in the manner provided by Section 504.6012(b). Money
deposited to that account may be used only by the Employees
Retirement System of Texas to provide financial assistance to
survivors of peace officers under Chapter 615, Government Code.
SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2017.
