The bill would amend the Government Code to require the Board of Pardons and Paroles (BPP) to identify an offender's completion of classes or programs before being released on parole. The bill would also require the Department of Criminal Justice (TDCJ) to make a reasonable effort to have an offender complete any classes or programs so that release on parole is not delayed. TDCJ and BPP anticipates any additional work resulting from the provisions of the bill could be reasonably absorbed within current resources. The bill would take effect September 1, 2017. Local Government Impact No fiscal implication to units of local government is anticipated.
