 A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
 AN ACT
 relating to the terms of the board of directors of the Palo Pinto
 County Hospital District.
 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
 SECTION 1.  Section 1084.051(b), Special District Local Laws
 Code, is amended to read as follows:
 (b)  Unless four-year terms are established under Section
 285.081, Health and Safety Code, the directors elected to the board
 serve staggered three-year [two-year] terms [as follows:
 [(1)     directors for places 1, 2, and 3 are elected on
 the uniform election date in May of each odd-numbered year; and
 [(2)     directors for places 4, 5, and 6 are elected on
 the uniform election date in May of each even-numbered year].
 SECTION 2.  A director of the Palo Pinto County Hospital
 District who is serving on the day before the effective date of this
 Act shall serve until the director's term expires as described by
 this section. A director serving in Place 1 or Place 2 shall serve
 until the director's successor has qualified following the election
 held in 2017. A director serving in Place 3 or Place 4 shall serve
 until the director's successor has qualified following the election
 held in 2018. A director serving in Place 5 or Place 6 shall serve
 until the director's successor has qualified following the election
 held in 2019.
 SECTION 3.  This Act takes effect immediately if it receives
 a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as
 provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution.  If this
 Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this
 Act takes effect September 1, 2017.
