A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
AN ACT
relating to required notice to certain students at public
lower-division institutions of higher education regarding skills
development job training or incentive programs.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
SECTION 1. Section 303.003, Labor Code, is amended by
adding Subsection (h-1) to read as follows:
(h-1) Each lower-division institution of higher education
shall require the institution's admissions or enrollment staff to
provide to any student who seeks to enroll in a course or program
offered by the institution that provides workforce training or that
leads to an industry-recognized license, credential, or
certificate notice regarding any relevant job training or incentive
programs under Subsection (b), (b-1), or (b-2) in which the
institution participates or through which the institution receives
funds. The commission may adopt rules prescribing the form and
manner of the notice required by this subsection.
SECTION 2. Section 303.003(h-1), Labor Code, as added by
this Act, applies beginning with the 2017 fall semester.
SECTION 3. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives
a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as
provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this
Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this
Act takes effect September 1, 2017.
