The bill would amend the Transportation Code to require a sign posted along a roadway that leads into an intersection at which a photographic traffic monitoring system is in use to include the range of the dollar amounts of penalties that may be imposed for a violation recorded by a photographic traffic monitoring system, in addition to notice that the photographic monitoring system is present and could result in the issuance of a notice of violation. The bill would exempt a municipality, if before September 1, 2017, the municipality has installed a sign along each roadway leading to an intersection in which a photographic traffic monitoring system is in active use and indicates the amount of the penalty that may be imposed for a violation recorded by the system.The bill would take effect September 1, 2017. Local Government Impact According to Texas Municipal League, there could be costs to local governments that may need to replace signs to include monetary penalties for a violation recorded by a photographic traffic monitoring system; however, the amounts would vary depending on signs currently posted.
