                    LEGISLATIVE BUDGET BOARD    Austin, Texas      FISCAL NOTE, 85TH LEGISLATIVE REGULAR SESSION            April 10, 2017      TO: Honorable Phil King, Chair, House Committee on Homeland Security & Public Safety      FROM: Ursula Parks, Director, Legislative Budget Board     IN RE:HB980 by Wray (Relating to reducing certain fees for a license to carry a handgun for county jailers.), As Introduced    No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.  The bill would amend the Government Code to allow an applicant for an original or renewal handgun license who is a county jailer to pay a reduced license fee of $25. The Department of Public Safety has indicated that while the agency does not collect data on the number of concealed handgun license holders who are jailers, the change in fee is not anticipated to have a significant revenue impact.The bill would take effect September 1, 2017. Local Government Impact The reduced fee could spare some degree of expense either for county jailers or their employers.
