No. 1021 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, Proud residents of Seagoville are visiting Austin on March 23, 2017, to celebrate Seagoville Day at the State Capitol; and WHEREAS, Located in the rich Blackland Prairie region near the Trinity River, the town was founded in 1876 and was originally named Seago, after T. K. Seago, a settler who established the location's first general store; area residents gained rail connections in 1881, when the Texas Trunk Railroad built through the town, and the first official plat was recorded in the Dallas County deed records two years later; there was a cotton gin and a steam gristmill by 1885, and nearby farmers shipped cotton and alfalfa; in 1910, the post office department changed the town's name to Seagoville to avoid confusion with a similarly named community; and WHEREAS, Today, the people of Seagoville delight in their community's small-town atmosphere, yet their proximity to the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex gives residents and visitors easy access to a wide range of big-city cultural and sports activities; and WHEREAS, Seagoville also boasts a variety of outdoor recreational opportunities at its numerous parks, tennis facilities, and senior citizen and youth centers; nearby Lake Ray Hubbard offers nearly 23,000 acres for fishing and water sports, while nature lovers can learn more about the area at the Post Oak Preserve and the Dallas Independent School District Environmental Education Center; and WHEREAS, Each October, the community celebrates the migration of the beautiful monarch butterfly during Seagofest, an event for the entire family that provides a welcome opportunity for residents to pay tribute to their shared history and culture; and WHEREAS, The city of Seagoville embodies the best aspects of both rural and urban life, and its citizens may indeed take great pride in their achievements as they work to build an even brighter future; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas Legislature hereby recognize March 23, 2017, as Seagoville Day at the State Capitol and extend to the visiting delegation sincere best wishes for a meaningful and memorable stay in Austin.
