No. 1226 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, The Martins Mill High School girls' basketball team enjoyed an outstanding 2016-2017 season, advancing all the way to the University Interscholastic League 2A state championship game on March 4 at the Alamodome in San Antonio; and WHEREAS, The Lady Mustangs compiled a stellar overall season record of 37 wins and just 3 defeats and put together a thrilling 29-game winning streak; after claiming the District 14-2A title, the Martins Mill players went on to record commanding playoff victories over Blue Ridge, Rivercrest, Honey Grove, and Windthorst High Schools, and their triumph over Era High on February 25 secured the regional crown and earned the team a trip to the state tournament for the 12th time in school history; and WHEREAS, Martins Mill faced off against 2016 state champion Weimar High School in the state semifinals; in a hard-fought showdown, the Lady Mustangs overcame a 10-point fourth quarter deficit with clutch shooting and a stout defense that allowed Weimar only one point over a nearly six-minute stretch to close out the contest; the 58-50 victory returned Martins Mill to the state finals for the second time in three years; in that game, the Lady Mustangs put up a determined effort but ultimately fell to Panhandle High School to bring their memorable season to a close; and WHEREAS, The dedicated members of the Martins Mill High School girls' basketball team proved themselves one of the top 2A squads in Texas during the 2016-2017 campaign, and they may indeed reflect with pride on their notable accomplishments; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas Legislature hereby congratulate the Martins Mill High School girls' basketball team on its successful season and extend to the team's players, coaches, and staff sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for the Lady Mustangs as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
