 R E S O L U T I O N
 WHEREAS, Brennen Shingleton, head coach of the Texas Wesleyan
 University men's basketball team, has been named the Division 1
 Men's Basketball National Coach of the Year by the National
 Association of Intercollegiate Athletics, and this honor provides a
 welcome opportunity to recognize his exemplary tenure with the
 university; and
 WHEREAS, Brennen Shingleton began his career at Texas
 Wesleyan University in 2002 as an assistant coach, and he quickly
 became involved in all areas of the school's basketball program,
 including recruiting, practice, in-game coaching, conditioning,
 and player development; he was later promoted to associate head
 coach before becoming head coach in 2012; and
 WHEREAS, Over the course of his years with Texas Wesleyan,
 Coach Shingleton has compiled an impressive overall record of 333
 wins and 157 losses, including a 103-58 mark as head coach, and he
 is credited with producing 50 All-Conference players as well as 18
 All-American selections; this inspiring leader has been named
 Sooner Athletic Conference Coach of the Year for the past two
 seasons after guiding his team to back-to-back regular season
 conference championships; and
 WHEREAS, During the 2016-2017 season, Coach Shingleton led
 the Rams to their second NAIA Division 1 national championship with
 an 86-76 victory over Life University on March 21; in recognition of
 the team's accomplishments and the high degree of respect he enjoys
 among his peers, Coach Shingleton was chosen as the recipient of the
 coveted National Coach of the Year honor; and
 WHEREAS, In all his endeavors, Coach Shingleton enjoys the
 love and support of his wife, Amanda, their two daughters, Kendall
 and Natalie, and their son, Connor; and
 WHEREAS, Through his expertise and commitment, Brennen
 Shingleton has advanced the outstanding reputation of Texas
 Wesleyan athletics, and his work is greatly appreciated by the
 university's supporters and by sports fans throughout the Lone Star
 State; now, therefore, be it
 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas
 Legislature hereby congratulate Brennen Shingleton on being named
 the NAIA Division 1 Men's Basketball National Coach of the Year and
 commend him for his many achievements with the Texas Wesleyan
 University basketball team; and, be it further
 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
 prepared for Coach Shingleton as an expression of high regard by the
 Texas House of Representatives.
