R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, The varsity Mariachi Toros de Plata of Mission
Veterans Memorial High School has distinguished itself through its
record of success in 2017, and the group is indeed deserving of
special recognition; and
WHEREAS, Members of the Mariachi Toros de Plata excelled at
the University Interscholastic League regional contest on January
21, earning Division 1 ratings from their adjudicator in each of the
event's categories, which include tone, technique, musicianship,
and presentation; the group's outstanding performance qualified
them to join other top mariachi bands from high schools across Texas
at the 2017 UIL State Mariachi Festival Pilot, held in San Antonio
on March 10 and 11; at this inaugural UIL state contest, they
received an overall Division 1 rating, the highest possible score
conferred by the contest's judges; and
WHEREAS, In addition to their success at the UIL regional and
state competitions, Mariachi Toros de Plata also achieved
noteworthy success at the Texas Association of Mariachi Educators
state competition held in San Antonio on February 4; making its
third consecutive appearance at this annual TAME event, the group
earned seventh place with its performance; and
WHEREAS, Through their hard work and dedication, the members
of Mariachi Toros de Plata have brought great credit to their school
and their community, and they may indeed take pride in their many
notable achievements; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas
Legislature hereby congratulate the members of the Mission Veterans
Memorial High School Mariachi Toros de Plata on a successful 2017
season and extend to them sincere best wishes for the future; and,
be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for the ensemble as an expression of high regard by the
Texas House of Representatives.
