H.R. No. 1500
R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Members of the Log Cabin Republicans of Houston are
celebrating the 40th anniversary of their parent organization at
their annual Lincoln Dinner on April 29, 2017; and
WHEREAS, Formed in 1977, Log Cabin Republicans is the
nation's first and largest organization representing gay
conservatives and allies who support fairness, freedom, and
equality for all Americans; it is headquartered in Washington,
D.C., with chapters across the country, including three in Texas;
the group advocates for gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender
individuals both within the Republican party and in the wider
community; and
WHEREAS, The Log Cabin Republicans of Houston works at the
city and county levels to build a stronger, more inclusive GOP;
while promoting the core values of limited government, individual
liberty, personal responsibility, free markets, and a strong
national defense, members champion the rights of all Americans,
regardless of sexual orientation or minority status; and
WHEREAS, Since its inception in 2010, the Houston chapter has
continued to grow, welcoming members of the LGBT community, elected
officials, and other supporters of an inclusive GOP into its ranks;
the group's endeavors encompass outreach to the LGBT community and
campaigns for like-minded candidates seeking public office in the
greater Houston area; at least once a year, the chapter unites with
the Austin and Dallas chapters to coordinate efforts for the
betterment of the party; and
WHEREAS, Members of the Log Cabin Republicans have made vital
contributions to the GOP and to the nation's political discourse
over the past four decades, and it is a distinct pleasure to join
the organization in celebrating this milestone in its history; now,
therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas
Legislature hereby commemorate the 40th anniversary of the Log
Cabin Republicans and extend to the Houston chapter sincere best
wishes for a meaningful and memorable event; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for the Log Cabin Republicans as an expression of high
regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
