 R E S O L U T I O N
 WHEREAS, A delegation from the Dr. Gerald D. Cobb Sixth Grade
 Campus in Houston is visiting Austin on May 16, 2017, to celebrate
 Cobb Sixth Grade Campus Day at the State Capitol; and
 WHEREAS, Named for former Galena Park Independent School
 District superintendent Dr. Gerald D. Cobb, the school first opened
 its doors on August 27, 2000; since then, this unique
 sixth-grade-only campus has annually served between 1,100 and 1,200
 students drawn from 10 feeder schools; and
 WHEREAS, Ably guided by principal Wendell Deason, the
 dedicated faculty and staff supervise a variety of enjoyable
 extracurricular activities, including band, choir, National Junior
 Honor Society, Math and Science Club, Cobb Leaders on Campus, the
 Demoiselle Diamonds, and the Rosebuds; these groups help to shape
 students into lifelong learners and productive citizens while
 providing myriad benefits to the Cobb community at large; and
 WHEREAS, By working to effectively address student needs, the
 teachers, administrators, and members of the support staff at the
 Cobb Sixth Grade Campus are helping area youth to succeed
 academically and to realize their full potential, and in so doing,
 they are contributing immeasurably to the future of the Lone Star
 State; now, therefore, be it
 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas
 Legislature hereby recognize May 16, 2017, as Cobb Sixth Grade
 Campus Day at the State Capitol and extend to all those in
 attendance sincere best wishes for a meaningful and memorable
 visit; and, be it further
 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
 prepared for the school as an expression of high regard by the Texas
 House of Representatives.
