R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, The San Antonio-Greater Helotes Little League
softball team reached the pinnacle of success by winning the
championship title at the 2016 Little League Softball World Series
in August; and
WHEREAS, On their road to the championship, the Greater
Helotes players clinched the Texas West and Southwest Region titles
to secure their spot in the World Series tournament, which took
place August 8-17 in Portland, Oregon; and
WHEREAS, After a succession of impressive wins in the World
Series, Greater Helotes faced off against the defending champions
from Salisbury, North Carolina, in the finale; an outstanding
defensive performance, combined with a spectacular five-run third
inning, resulted in a 5-1 victory over their competition, leaving
the Greater Helotes team with an undefeated 7-0 record in the
series; and
WHEREAS, The Greater Helotes team received vital
contributions throughout the season from each member of its roster:
Jada Muñoz, Annika Litterio, Gabriela Vela, Carmen Vela, Kaelyn
Rodriguez, Reese Wilson, Arianna Elizondo-Galvan, Alana Wimberley,
Kristen Campa, Avery Rangel, Arianna Sanchez, Olivia Ball, Maddie
McKay, and Jackie Kirkpatrick; these talented athletes were ably
guided by head coach Mario Sanchez and assistant coaches Matt
Norman and Francisco Ball; and
WHEREAS, With their fine showing at the Little League World
Series, the members of the San Antonio-Greater Helotes Little
League softball team have proudly represented the Lone Star State,
and they may indeed take justifiable pride in the admirable skill
and dedication they have demonstrated; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas
Legislature hereby congratulate the San Antonio-Greater Helotes
Little League softball team on winning the 2016 Little League
Softball World Series and extend to the team's players and coaches
sincere best wishes for continued success; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for the San Antonio-Greater Helotes Little League softball
team as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of
Representatives.
