H.R. No. 1525 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, The McKinney Independent School District has been named to the 2017 list of the Best Communities for Music Education published by the National Association of Music Merchants Foundation; and WHEREAS, Each year, the NAMM Foundation, along with the University of Kansas Music Research Institute, evaluates music programs in some 14,000 U.S. school districts based on student participation, demographic representation, budgetary and administrative staff support, achievement records, and other factors; only about four percent of the districts selected for this assessment ultimately earn special recognition from the association; and WHEREAS, In addition to numerous McKinney ISD student musicians receiving individual honors, many of the district's ensembles have garnered acclaim at the local, state, and national levels; McKinney Boyd High School, Evans Middle School, and Eddins Elementary School have each earned Honor Choir recognition from the Texas Music Educators Association, and the Cockrill Middle School Honors Band has won numerous titles in the Mark of Excellence National Wind Band Honors contest hosted by the Foundation for Music Education; moreover, several groups from within the district have performed at the prestigious Midwest Clinic International Band, Orchestra, and Music Conference; in 2015, the Faubion Middle School Orchestra was named a Middle School Honor Full Orchestra by TMEA, and the McKinney High School and McKinney North High School marching bands qualified for the University Interscholastic League State Marching Band Contest; and WHEREAS, McKinney ISD has established a long-standing tradition of excellence in music education, and the district's administrators, faculty, staff, and students may indeed take great pride in this notable distinction; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas Legislature hereby congratulate the McKinney Independent School District for being named to the 2017 list of the Best Communities for Music Education by the National Association of Music Merchants Foundation and extend to all those associated with the district's music programs sincere best wishes for continued success; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for the district as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
