No. 1533 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, Members of the Anna High School Beta Club distinguished themselves through their outstanding performance at the 57th Annual Texas Beta Club Convention, held in Frisco from February 24 to 25, 2017; and WHEREAS, The Anna High chapter of this national honor and service organization requires members to maintain a 3.0 GPA and complete at least 50 hours of community service each year; all participants are invited to attend the Texas Beta Club Convention, where students compete in a variety of academic, art, and speech contests; in recent years, the Anna Beta Club has been named a National Beta School of Distinction and selected as a Golden Key Award recipient; and WHEREAS, A number of Anna Beta Club members took top honors for their exceptional performances at the 2017 state convention, including Michelle Larriva, who won the Mixed Media art competition, and Devin O'Neal, who earned second place in the Creative Writing Division II contest; Pamela West placed third in the Sculpture category, and Beta Club president Juan Sanchez also garnered third-place honors for his entry in the Spanish Division II category; moreover, Madison Hemenway, Kaleigh Terry, Jillian Vargas, and Melanie Hunter captured third place in the Club Trading Pin contest, and Trenten Wilson, Haley Thornburg, and Riley Stockton came in third in the Fresh Look at Beta competition; and WHEREAS, With their fine showing at the Texas Beta Club Convention, members of the Anna Beta Club have brought credit to their school, and they may take justifiable pride in the talent and dedication they have demonstrated; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas Legislature hereby recognize the Anna High School Beta Club for its success at the 2017 Texas Beta Club Convention and extend to all its members sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for the club as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
