No. 1682 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, The football team of Calallen High School in Corpus Christi enjoyed an exceptional 2016 season, advancing all the way to the University Interscholastic League 5A Division 2 state championship game on December 16 at AT&T Stadium in Arlington; and WHEREAS, During the regular season, the Wildcats dropped only a single contest and reeled off an impressive eight-game winning streak to secure the District 30-5A crown; and WHEREAS, Continuing its commanding play in the postseason, the team dominated Uvalde High School in the opening round before recording a shutout against Mercedes High School; the Wildcats followed that performance with wins over Boerne Champion and Victoria East High Schools, and then they clinched a spot in the state finale with a dramatic 31-30 victory against College Station High School; and WHEREAS, The Wildcats turned in a valiant performance versus Aledo High School in the 5A Division 2 championship showdown, carrying the battle into the final minutes of the game, but they were ultimately defeated, concluding the season with an outstanding record of 14 wins and only 2 losses; and WHEREAS, Excelling with a true team effort, the Wildcats received valuable contributions from each member of the roster over the course of the 2016 campaign; these dedicated athletes were ably guided by head coach Phil Danaher and his staff, whose leadership and expertise helped inspire the squad to reach its full potential; and WHEREAS, Through talent, hard work, and an unwavering determination to excel, the members of the 2016 Calallen High School football team are a source of immense pride to their school and their community, and it is a pleasure to commend them on a job well done; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas Legislature hereby congratulate the Calallen High School football team on its outstanding 2016 season and extend to all those associated with the team sincere best wishes for continued success; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for the team as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
