H.R. No. 181 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, March 14, 2017, marks the 50th wedding anniversary of Jon and Mary Peterson of Jersey Village, and this joyous event provides a fitting opportunity to reflect on their rewarding journey together as husband and wife; and WHEREAS, Jon Peterson and the former Mary Elizabeth Shackelford were joined in matrimony on that memorable day in 1967 in Houston; over the years, they have been blessed with a treasured family that includes their son, Christopher, as well as their two grandchildren, Cody and Sadie; and WHEREAS, Valued residents of the Jersey Village community for nearly four decades, the couple are both retired from their respective careers; Mr. Peterson served his country proudly as a member of the U.S. Army, and in his civilian life, he held positions with AT&T, Boy Scouts of America, and the Cypress-Fairbanks Independent School District; Mrs. Peterson was also employed by AT&T, where she worked as a secretary; and WHEREAS, In their leisure hours, Mr. and Mrs. Peterson enjoy hunting, fishing, and spending time with their grandchildren; Mr. Peterson counts cowboy action shooting among his favorite hobbies, while Mrs. Peterson takes pleasure in her membership in the Red Hat Society; sustained by a deep faith, they are both devoted congregants at their church; and WHEREAS, The half century of marriage that Mr. and Mrs. Peterson have shared is eloquent affirmation of the meaning of love and commitment, and their enduring union is an inspiration to all who know them; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas Legislature hereby congratulate Jon and Mary Peterson on their 50th wedding anniversary and extend to them sincere best wishes for continued happiness; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Mr. and Mrs. Peterson as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
