H.R. No. 1935 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, The descendants of Isaac "Ike" Reed are gathering in Austin from July 27 through 30, 2017, for their much-anticipated family reunion, an event that has taken place for more than four decades; and WHEREAS, Born in France in 1823, Ike Reed was the biracial son of a white mother and a black father; after being adopted, he came to the United States at a young age and became a citizen; he went on to travel throughout the country and to eventually settle in Louisiana, where he acquired more than 200 acres of land and operated several small businesses; and WHEREAS, Mr. Reed was the father of 17 children, and over the years, his family has spread across the nation and around the world and has grown to include medical doctors, educators, athletes, lawyers, ministers, public servants, business owners, and military veterans; and WHEREAS, Since 1973, descendants of Ike Reed have come together to share in one another's company and to celebrate the rich heritage that has united them for almost two centuries, and it is indeed a pleasure to recognize this special occasion; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas Legislature hereby commemorate the 41st Isaac "Ike" Reed Family Reunion and extend to all those in attendance sincere best wishes for an enjoyable and memorable event; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for the family as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
