R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Jose Perez of the Pharr Fire Department was named
Firefighter of the Year by the Rio Grande Valley Firefighter's and
Fire Marshals' Association in April 2017; and
WHEREAS, Each year, the organization recognizes a
firefighter who has demonstrated exceptional professional
knowledge, creativity and innovation, bravery and heroism, and
community involvement; and
WHEREAS, A former U.S. Marine, Mr. Perez has served as a
firefighter in the Pharr Fire Department for eight years; in
addition to performing his regular duties, he has helped make
physical fitness training more enjoyable for his fellow
firefighters by incorporating boxing exercises into the program; he
also volunteers as a youth boxing coach for the Pharr Police
Athletic League, and he has donated his time and expertise as a
certified electrician to bring a fire victim's home into code
compliance; and
WHEREAS, Jose Perez has earned the respect and admiration of
his peers through his commitment to excellence and his dedication
to safeguarding the public, and he is indeed deserving of this most
recent honor; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas
Legislature hereby congratulate Jose Perez on being named
Firefighter of the Year by the Rio Grande Valley Firefighter's and
Fire Marshals' Association and extend to him sincere best wishes
for the future; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for Mr. Perez as an expression of high regard by the Texas
House of Representatives.
