No. 2142 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, The boys' track and field team from Cypress Christian School in Houston proved itself one of the finest squads in the state by placing second overall at the Texas Association of Private and Parochial Schools 4A Track & Field State Meet held at Hart Stadium in Waco May 5-6, 2017; and WHEREAS, The Warriors were paced in individual events by John Ethan Baldwin, who placed first in the 300-meter hurdles with a time of 39.8 seconds and third in both the long and triple jumps with leaps of 21 feet, 8.5 inches and 42 feet, 8.25 inches, respectively; moreover, Cole Miller captured the silver medal in the 400-meter dash with a time of 50.39 seconds, and Foster Paulsen finished second in the discus throw with a distance of 127 feet, 9 inches; fine performances were also turned in by Jacob Hotchkiss in the 800-meter dash, Tyler Landua in the 110-meter hurdles and the triple jump, and Austin Henry in the 300-meter hurdles; and WHEREAS, In team events, Mr. Baldwin and Mr. Miller joined forces with Ian Jones and Jackson Landrum to clinch the silver medal in the 4x100-meter relay with a time of 43.59 seconds; in addition, the quartet of Mr. Baldwin, Mr. Miller, Mr. Landrum, and Mr. Hotchkiss turned in a fourth-place finish in the 4x400-meter relay; and WHEREAS, Ably guided by head coach Timothy Honeycutt, these talented student-athletes have excelled through skill, hard work, and an unwavering commitment to perform at the highest level, and they are a source of tremendous pride to their classmates and to their many supporters in the local community; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas Legislature hereby congratulate the Cypress Christian School boys' track and field team on placing second overall at the 2017 TAPPS 4A Track & Field State Meet and extend to the squad's members, coaches, and staff sincere best wishes for continued success; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for the Warriors as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
