H.R. No. 2503 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, Gonzalez Elementary School in Brownsville celebrated its 30th anniversary during the 2016-2017 academic year; and WHEREAS, This notable campus is named for Mariano Gonzalez, a beloved local bus driver who spent nearly three decades transporting students to and from school and special events; initially led by principal Neida Ruth Soto, the school opened its doors in the fall of 1986, and the new building garnered praise for its bright and cheerful interior; the school adopted purple, white, and black as its official colors and the mustang as its mascot; and WHEREAS, Today, Gonzalez Elementary serves more than 800 students in early education through fifth grade; under the expert guidance of principal Dr. Timothy Cuff, the dedicated faculty and staff work tirelessly to equip their students with the ability to think independently and communicate effectively, along with other essential academic skills; and WHEREAS, The education of young Texans is of great importance to the future of our state, and for the past 30 years, Gonzalez Elementary has helped its students to reach their full potential and to become engaged and productive members of their community; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas Legislature hereby commemorate the 30th anniversary of Gonzalez Elementary School and extend to its administrators, faculty, staff, and students sincere best wishes for continued success; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for the school as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
