 R E S O L U T I O N
 WHEREAS, The robotics team from Bushland High School reached
 the pinnacle of success by winning the University Interscholastic
 League Class 1A-4A FIRST Tech Challenge state championship held at
 the Austin Convention Center on May 20, 2017; and
 WHEREAS, Sponsored by the FIRST in Texas Foundation, the
 FIRST Tech Challenge provides middle and high school students with
 opportunities to design, build, program, and operate robots while
 also developing important STEM skills; and
 WHEREAS, After their impressive performance at the regional
 level, the students from Bushland High advanced to the state
 tournament, where they earned third place in the preliminaries;
 they entered the semifinal and final rounds in an alliance with
 fellow Panhandle school Kelton STEAM Academy, and together the two
 teams dispatched their opponents, going undefeated in both sets of
 matches and claiming the championship title; and
 WHEREAS, Benefiting from the able guidance of coaches Melissa
 Cochran and Kenny Miller, the Bushland High team received valuable
 contributions from the four members  of its roster: Jack Smalligan,
 Hunter Miller, Mason Reed, and Justin Cochran; and
 WHEREAS, With their fine showing at the state contest, the
 members of the Bushland High robotics team have demonstrated
 tremendous skill, initiative, and an enduring commitment to
 excellence, and they are a source of great pride to their school and
 community; now, therefore, be it
 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas
 Legislature hereby congratulate the Bushland High School robotics
 team on winning the 2017 UIL FIRST Tech Challenge state
 championship and extend to its members sincere best wishes for
 continued success; and, be it further
 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
 prepared for the squad as an expression of high regard by the Texas
 House of Representatives.
