No. 365 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, A full and generous life drew to a close with the passing of Ruby Lee O'Neal Greene on February 3, 2017, at the age of 90; and WHEREAS, The daughter of Henry and Dovie O'Neal, the former Ruby O'Neal was born on November 1, 1926, in the town of Eloise in Falls County; one of 12 children, she grew up in Antioch and met her future husband, Shellie Tom Greene, while in school; the couple married in 1946 and became the parents of two sons, Vincent and Shellie, and four daughters, Dorothy, Dovie, Henretta, and Marilyn; while raising her family in Odessa, Mrs. Greene encouraged a love of learning, and they all graduated from college and went on to professional careers; and WHEREAS, Mrs. Greene adored children and demonstrated an exceptional commitment to early education; she taught many little ones in her home and at First Baptist Church Day Care and Odessa College Day Care; kind, caring, and always willing to help, she enjoyed cooking for others, and her kitchen was a most welcoming place; she could be counted on for wise, unstinting advice as well as a tasty meal, and she was also admired for the elegance of her attire, which included stiletto heels and stylish hats; and WHEREAS, A woman of deep faith, Mrs. Greene was a valued member of St. James Baptist Church and served as a deaconess and as a member of the Missionary Circle and choir; she later joined Concord Baptist Church while living in Dallas; and WHEREAS, Those fortunate enough to have known Ruby Greene will remember her warmth, strength of character, and compassion, and she will forever hold a treasured place in their hearts; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Ruby Lee O'Neal Greene and extend sincere condolences to the members of her family: to her children, Dorothy Jackson and her husband, David, Shellie Tom Greene Jr. and his wife, Flora, Dovie Jackson and her husband, Isaac, Henretta Holmes and her husband, Jerry, and Marilyn Clark; to her siblings, Velma Sanders, Johnny O'Neal, and Hazel Harden; to her grandchildren, David, Danese, Tracy, Jerretta, Jerret, Kellee, Michael, Ranthony, and Vincent; to her 12 great-grandchildren; and to her other relatives and friends; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for her family and that when the Texas House of Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Ruby Greene.
