 R E S O L U T I O N
 WHEREAS, Proud residents of Missouri City are gathering in
 Austin on March 8, 2017, to celebrate Missouri City Day at the State
 Capitol; and
 WHEREAS, Situated along the Brazos River a few miles
 southwest of Houston, the town was created by real estate promoters
 R. M. Cash and L. E. Luckle, who called it a "land of genial
 sunshine and eternal summer"; another promoter, W. R. McElroy,
 named it Missouri City to attract residents of St. Louis; the
 self-styled "Show Me City" was originally an agricultural hub for
 local farmers and ranchers, shipping cotton, corn, cattle, and
 sugarcane, and oil and natural gas were discovered nearby in the
 1920s; the city was incorporated in 1956; and
 WHEREAS, Today, this thriving community of more than 74,000
 people is winning accolades as an ideal place to live and raise a
 family; a certified Texas Scenic City, it has been listed by CNN
 Money magazine in the top 100 Best Places to Live among the nation's
 small cities and as one of the nation's 10 most affordable cities;
 CQ Press has placed it among the 100 safest towns in America, and a
 Rice University study cited it as one of the most diverse
 municipalities in the Houston area; and
 WHEREAS, Missouri City's residents may take advantage of the
 many fine opportunities for recreation, including 20 parks, a
 25,000-square-foot Recreation and Tennis Center, and the
 city-owned, 36-hole Quail Valley Golf Course, which was named Best
 Value Under $50 by Avid Golfer magazine; and
 WHEREAS, Conveniently located only minutes from the
 amenities of Houston, Missouri City is strategically located close
 to major freeways and rail lines, George Bush Intercontinental
 Airport and William P. Hobby Airport, and the Port of Houston;
 commuters also benefit from ready access to two METRO Park and Ride
 locations; and
 WHEREAS, The residents of Missouri City may indeed take great
 pride in their dynamic community and in the care with which they are
 building a bright tomorrow while preserving the city's charm; now,
 therefore, be it
 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas
 Legislature hereby recognize March 8, 2017, as Missouri City Day at
 the State Capitol and extend to the visiting delegation sincere
 best wishes for a meaningful and memorable stay in Austin.
