 R E S O L U T I O N
 WHEREAS, March 8, 2017, is Parkland Health & Hospital System
 Day at the State Capitol, and this occasion provides a fitting
 opportunity to recognize this noteworthy institution; and
 WHEREAS, Parkland Health & Hospital System has been caring
 for patients in Dallas County since 1894, and it has grown into an
 integrated health system and a prominent public academic medical
 center that today employs more than 12,000 individuals; and
 WHEREAS, Over the years, Parkland has expanded its services,
 and it is designated as a Level I trauma center, a Level III
 neonatal intensive care unit, and a Level II stroke facility;
 moreover, in 2015, Parkland opened a new four million square foot
 hospital to better meet the needs of a growing population, and in
 January 2017, the system added a new ambulatory clinic named after
 longtime CEO Dr. Ron J. Anderson; and
 WHEREAS, With an average of some 63,000 admissions and over
 one million outpatient visits annually, Parkland's reach extends
 into the communities through numerous primary care clinics,
 school-based clinics, and mobile medical vans, and with innovative
 programs that include Homeless Outreach Medical Services, the
 Injury Prevention Center of Greater Dallas, and the North Texas
 Poison Center; the Parkland system also assists the uninsured in
 Dallas County, enabling residents of all means to have access to the
 health care they need; and
 WHEREAS, Parkland has received a number of honors over the
 years, including a 2015 Leapfrog Top Hospital Award for quality and
 safety and a 2016 designation as one of the 50 Greenest Hospitals in
 America; additionally, the facility has been recognized with a
 Texas Preparedness Leadership Award for its outstanding service in
 response to the 2016 Dallas police shootings; and
 WHEREAS, For more than 120 years, Parkland Health & Hospital
 System has worked to provide patients and their families with
 skilled and compassionate care, and its record of achievement and
 dedication to the residents of the Dallas County area are indeed
 deserving of special praise; now, therefore, be it
 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas
 Legislature hereby recognize March 8, 2017, as Parkland Health &
 Hospital System Day at the State Capitol and extend to the visiting
 delegation sincere best wishes for an informative and enjoyable
 stay in Austin.
