 R E S O L U T I O N
 WHEREAS, The students, faculty, and staff of Alpha Omega
 Academy in Huntsville are celebrating the school's 20th anniversary
 and the graduation of its 16th class of seniors in 2017; and
 WHEREAS, Alpha Omega Academy was established by a group of
 families in Huntsville who envisioned a Christ-centered school with
 a classical approach to education; in addition to integrating
 scripture into its curriculum, Alpha Omega Academy seeks to instill
 in pupils a lifelong dedication to the pursuit of truth, moral
 goodness, and aesthetic beauty and to enable them to reason
 persuasively and to think critically, logically, and wisely; the
 school also offers a strong program of athletics and
 extracurricular activities to develop well-rounded students; and
 WHEREAS, The school first opened its doors in the fall of
 1997, welcoming 27 students in first through eighth grade; classes
 were initially held in a strip mall on Lake Road and in a local
 church; outgrowing its first locations within a few years, the
 school began leasing space from the Fellowship of Huntsville Church
 on Highway 30 West, and it soon purchased five adjacent acres on
 which it established its own campus; and
 WHEREAS, The first group of three Alpha Omega seniors
 graduated in 2002, and more than 200 students have completed the
 program in the years since; still led by its original headmaster,
 Paul Davidhizar, the school currently serves 411 students in
 kindergarten through 12th grade, and it will grant diplomas to
 another 27 graduates in May 2017; and
 WHEREAS, In the course of its 20-year history, Alpha Omega
 has been home to a National Merit Scholar and several National Merit
 Commended Students; the grammar and junior high levels have fielded
 competitive teams at the ACSI Math Olympics and at spelling bees and
 speech meets; the drama department has participated in one-act play
 competitions, and individual students have placed first or second
 in state in solo and duet acting; moreover, music and art students
 have earned superior ratings in solo and ensemble contests and art
 competitions; the baseball team won the TAPPS 1A state championship
 several years in a row, and the school's golf team was the state
 champion for the fifth time in the spring of 2015; and
 WHEREAS, For the past two decades, Alpha Omega Academy has
 given many young Texans a strong academic foundation on which to
 build, and the school is indeed deserving of recognition on this
 important milestone in its history; now, therefore, be it
 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas
 Legislature hereby honor Alpha Omega Academy on the occasion of its
 20th anniversary and congratulate the members of the school's Class
 of 2017 on their graduation; and, be it further
 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
 prepared for the academy as an expression of high regard by the
 Texas House of Representatives.
