 R E S O L U T I O N
 WHEREAS, The 76th Southwestern Regional Conference of Sigma
 Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc., is taking place in Austin on March 16-19,
 2017; and
 WHEREAS, Established at Butler University in Indianapolis on
 November 12, 1922, Sigma Gamma Rho is an organization of more than
 85,000 members who are committed to enhancing the quality of life of
 women and their families through local and global community
 outreach; the sorority's Southwestern Region was formed in Houston
 in 1940, encompassing the states of Texas, Oklahoma, Louisiana, and
 Arkansas; and
 WHEREAS, With numerous undergraduate and graduate chapters
 and affiliates, the Southwestern Region has a proud history of
 service; its premier program is Project Reassurance, which is
 designed to provide health education, care, and support for
 expectant teen mothers and special needs families; members in the
 region also sponsor programs with a global impact, including the
 Mwanamugimu Essay Contest and the Program for Africa, along with
 other beneficial initiatives such as Operation BigBookBag and
 Project Wee Savers; and
 WHEREAS, The compassionate women of Sigma Gamma Rho have been
 a force for good in the lives of countless people for nearly a
 century, and the organization's Southwestern Regional Conference
 offers an opportunity for members to come together in fellowship as
 they work to build a brighter future for their communities; now,
 therefore, be it
 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas
 Legislature hereby commemorate the 76th Southwestern Regional
 Conference of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc., and extend to all
 those in attendance sincere best wishes for a meaningful and
 memorable event; and, be it further
 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
 prepared for the Southwestern Region as an expression of high
 regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
