No. 853 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, In recognition of her military service during World War II, Maxine Flournoy is being presented with a Women in History award by the Corpus Christi Chapter of the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution on March 24, 2017; and WHEREAS, A native of Wheaton, Missouri, Maxine Flournoy received her pilot's license in 1939, and at age 21, she joined the Women's Air Force Service Pilots; after graduating from training in 1943, she was assigned to Sweetwater and later stationed at the Hondo Army Airfield, where she flew planes in from factories and helped train navigators; in 2010, she was awarded the Congressional Gold Medal for her distinguished service; and WHEREAS, Over the years, Mrs. Flournoy has further benefited her fellow citizens as a board member for the United Service Organizations and as a Texas Historical Commissioner; and WHEREAS, Americans owe a debt of gratitude to those men and women who commit themselves to defending the nation's liberty and security, and Maxine Flournoy may indeed take great pride in her outstanding service to her nation; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas Legislature hereby congratulate Maxine Flournoy on her receipt of a Women in History award from the Corpus Christi Chapter of the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution and extend to her sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Mrs. Flournoy as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
