 R E S O L U T I O N
 WHEREAS, The Silsbee High School boys' basketball team
 reached the ultimate level of achievement by winning the University
 Interscholastic League 4A state championship on March 11, 2017, at
 the Alamodome in San Antonio; and
 WHEREAS, After collecting the district title with their
 outstanding play in the regular season, the Tigers advanced through
 the playoffs with victories against Huntington, Sour Lake
 Hardin-Jefferson, Houston North Forest, Waco La Vega, Houston
 Yates, and Argyle High Schools to set up a championship battle
 against Brazosport High School of Freeport; and
 WHEREAS, In the title contest, the Tigers trailed 39-36 at
 halftime but went on a 33-point offensive frenzy in the third
 quarter to take a 69-58 lead; they then held off Brazosport in the
 final frame to capture the trophy by a final score of 89-83; the
 triumph earned Silsbee High its first boys' basketball state crown
 in school history and capped an unforgettable season in which the
 squad compiled an impressive record of 33 wins and only 6 losses;
 and
 WHEREAS, The Tigers were led by sophomore guard Jordyn Adams,
 who was named the championship game's Most Valuable Player after
 tallying 26 points and 9 rebounds; he was joined on the
 All-Tournament Team by fellow Silsbee standouts Braelon Bush, a
 freshman guard, and Willie Jones, a senior forward; and
 WHEREAS, The Silsbee High team also received valuable
 contributions throughout the season from the other members of the
 roster: Bruce Newton, Calvin Tyler, Michael McCain, Trajan Harris,
 Adonis Thomas, Jadon Bass, Landyn Tyler, Chris Martin, Chris
 Thomas, Decoby Jones, and Kalon Barnes; these determined athletes
 were ably guided by head coach Joe Sigler and assistant coaches Ira
 Brooks and James Collins; and
 WHEREAS, Winning a state championship represents the
 culmination of countless hours of hard work and an enduring
 commitment to excellence, and the Silsbee Tigers may take
 justifiable pride in this noteworthy accomplishment; now,
 therefore, be it
 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas
 Legislature hereby congratulate the Silsbee High School boys'
 basketball team on winning the 2017 UIL 4A state championship and
 extend to the team's players, coaches, and staff sincere best
 wishes for continued success; and, be it further
 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
 prepared for the Tigers as an expression of high regard by the Texas
 House of Representatives.
