H.R. No. 971 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, Three musicians from Johnny G. Economedes High School in Edinburg have been chosen as 2017 Texas All-State Orchestra members by the Texas Music Educators Association; and WHEREAS, The TMEA All-State designation is the highest achievement that a Texas music student can earn; more than 64,000 young people from across the state compete every year for a chair in one of 15 All-State bands, orchestras, and choirs; those who are selected for one of the ensembles are among the top one percent of high school musicians in the Lone Star State and are invited to attend the annual TMEA convention in San Antonio, where they participate in three days of intense rehearsals and perform a concert under the direction of a nationally recognized conductor; and WHEREAS, Benefiting from the guidance of orchestra director Cristina Gonzalez, the Economedes High School students making All-State are senior double bassist Isai Martinez for the symphony orchestra, senior violist Aaron Barrera for the philharmonic orchestra, and sophomore double bassist Diego Garza-Romero for the string orchestra; this marks Mr. Martinez's third and Mr. Garza-Romero's second selection to an All-State ensemble; and WHEREAS, Through their skill and hard work, these gifted young Texans have earned a place among the state's elite high school musicians, and they may indeed take great pride in this outstanding achievement; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas Legislature hereby congratulate Isai Martinez, Aaron Barrera, and Diego Garza-Romero on their selection as 2017 Texas All-State Orchestra members and extend to them sincere best wishes for continued success; and, be it further RESOLVED, That official copies of this resolution be prepared for Mr. Martinez, Mr. Barrera, and Mr. Garza-Romero as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
