The bill would amend the Health and Safety Code by requiring a local mental health authority at least once per year to consult with the sheriff or a representative of the sheriff regarding the use of funds received. The act would take effect September 1, 2017. The Commission on Law Enforcement, Department of State Health Services, and Health and Human Services Commission anticipate no fiscal impact from the bill to the State. Local Government Impact According to the Texas Association of Counties, no significant fiscal impact is anticipated. According to the Health and Human Services Commission, local governments may experience a fiscal impact due to an increased diversion effort from the criminal justice system. Due to variation across communities the number of diversions and fiscal impact cannot be determined at this time.
