The bill would amend the Family Code to require the petition in a suit for dissolution of a marriage state the existence of a protective order; or an order for emergency protection; or an application for a protective order with regard to a party to the suit or a child of a party to the suit. The petitioner would be required to attach a copy of the protective order(s) in which a party to the suit or the child of a party to the suit was the applicant or victim of the conduct alleged in the application or order, and the other party was the respondent or defendant of an action regarding the conduct alleged in the application or order. The bill would also require petitioners in a proceeding to adjudicate parentage to adhere to these requirements. Based on the analysis of the Office of Court Administration, duties and responsibilities associated with implementing the provisions of the bill could be accomplished by utilizing existing resources. Local Government Impact No significant fiscal implication to units of local government is anticipated.
