                    LEGISLATIVE BUDGET BOARD    Austin, Texas      FISCAL NOTE, 85TH LEGISLATIVE REGULAR SESSION            May 24, 2017      TO: Honorable Dan Patrick, Lieutenant Governor, Senate      FROM: Ursula Parks, Director, Legislative Budget Board     IN RE:SB490 by Lucio (Relating to information regarding the number of school counselors in public schools.), As Passed 2nd House    No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.  The bill would add Section 42.006(a-2) to the Texas Education Code directing the Commissioner of Education to by rule require each school district and open-enrollment charter school report through the Public Education Information Management System (PEIMS) information regarding the availability of school counselors at each campus.The bill would also add Section 39.306(d-1) to the Texas Education Code relating to school district annual educational performance reports. The bill would require each school district board of trustees to include the number of counselors providing counseling at each campus in this report.According to the Texas Education Agency sufficient data is currently being collected to meet the requirements of the bill.
