The bill would amend sections of the Education Code as it relates to financial aid awards under the Texas Educational Opportunity Grant (TEOG) program. Under provisions of the bill, students enrolled in baccalaureate degree programs at public two year institutions would be eligible to participate in the program. These students could not receive a TEOG Grant for more than the greater of (1) 15 semester credit hours (SCH) or the equivalent in excess of the degree requirements or (2) 135 SCHs or the equivalent. The bill would impact participation in the TEOG Program beginning with the 2018-19 academic year. Based on information provided by the Higher Education Coordinating Board, the number of students eligible for the program would not increase significantly and as a result no significant fiscal impact to the state is anticipated. Local Government Impact No significant fiscal implication to units of local government is anticipated.
