SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 22 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to join the Texas Partnership for Out of School Time and Texans across the state in celebrating January 23, 2017, as Expanded Learning Opportunities Day at the State Capitol; and WHEREAS, The Texas Partnership for Out of School Time is a statewide network of nonprofit, public, and private sector groups dedicated to providing students with a wide selection of before-school, after-school, and summer break activities; its providers include such nationally recognized organizations as the YMCA, the Boys and Girls Clubs, and 4-H, as well as municipal programs and faith-based organizations; and WHEREAS, Expanded Learning Opportunities initiatives give young people a safe and supportive environment in which they can engage in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics education, the performing and fine arts, health and nutrition programs, physical activity, and character building; these activities have been shown to improve grades, test scores, attendance, behavior, and grade promotion; and WHEREAS, Expanded Learning Opportunities programs have helped countless young Texans aspire to the highest levels of personal development and have enhanced the quality of life in communities across the state, and those who devote their time and energy to helping young people achieve their goals are truly deserving of special recognition; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th Legislature, hereby commend all those participating in Expanded Learning Opportunities Day at the State Capitol; and, be it further RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared in honor of this special occasion.
