SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 478
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
welcome members of the Texas Retired Teachers Association who are
gathering in Austin on March 29, 2017, as part of Texas Retired
Teachers Week; and
WHEREAS, Texas takes great pride in the state's public
educators and in the invaluable service they provide to citizens;
the Texas Retired Teachers Association was established to
represent the state's many retired public educators, and this
year, the association is celebrating Texas Retired Teachers Week
March 27 through 31; and
WHEREAS, The 80,000 members of the Texas Retired Teachers
Association continually work to improve local communities and
have engaged in more than six million hours of volunteer service
at schools and in educational programs throughout the state; many
retired educators continue to promote lifelong learning in
schools through the Children's Book Project, an endeavor that has
provided more than 800,000 books to Texas children; and
WHEREAS, Members of the Texas Retired Teachers Association
work diligently to protect the interests of current and future
public education retirees in Texas, and they are indeed deserving
of recognition for their support of Texas public educators and
their contributions to local communities and the state; now,
therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th
Legislature, hereby commend all associated with the Texas
Retired Teachers Association and extend to them best wishes for a
memorable Texas Retired Teachers Association Day at the State
Capitol; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
the association as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
