SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 81
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
recognize Leander Presbyterian Church on the occasion of its
160th anniversary, which is being celebrated on February 14,
2017; and
WHEREAS, Leander Presbyterian Church was organized
February 14, 1857, under the leadership of the Reverend
R. M. Overstreet; originally known as Pleasant Hill Presbyterian
Church and located in Bagdad, it moved to Leander in the early
1880s, and many descendants of its early members remain active in
the life of the church today; and
WHEREAS, Under the guidance and wise stewardship of its
pastors, Leander Presbyterian Church has continued to grow and to
play a vital role in the life of the community; and
WHEREAS, Leander Presbyterian Church has been an
invaluable source of strength for church members in times of
hardship and bereavement and a place of inspirational fellowship
in times of plenty; and
WHEREAS, The celebration of the church's 160th anniversary
is an opportunity for all to reflect on its rich history and on
the ministries it has established to the benefit of its
congregation and the community; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th
Legislature, hereby extend best wishes to the clergy and members
of Leander Presbyterian Church on the joyous occasion of its
160th anniversary; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
the church as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
