 R E S O L U T I O N
 WHEREAS, The girls' track team of DeSoto High School reached
 the pinnacle of success by winning the Class 6A state championship
 at the 2017 University Interscholastic League Track & Field State
 Meet; and
 WHEREAS, Facing off against other top Texas high school
 athletes at Mike A. Myers Stadium in Austin on May 12 and 13, Jalese
 Moore, Rosaline Effiong, Cierra Wash, and Bryannia Murphy captured
 the gold medal in the 4x400-meter relay with a record-breaking time
 of 3 minutes, 37.85 seconds; along with Taylor Armstrong and Jada
 Laye, Ms. Murphy and Ms. Wash secured another first-place win in
 the 4x200-meter relay, and Ms. Murphy, Ms. Laye, Ms. Wash, and
 Ms. Effiong earned third place in the 4x100-meter relay; and
 WHEREAS, Ably guided by head coach June Villers, the Eagles
 also received vital contributions from each member of the team in
 the individual contests, with Ms. Effiong turning in a particularly
 notable performance and earning silver in the 200-meter dash with a
 time of 23.66 seconds; the squad finished the competition with an
 impressive cumulative score of 65 points, clinching the state title
 for DeSoto High; and
 WHEREAS, These talented young athletes have distinguished
 themselves through skill, hard work, and an enduring commitment to
 excellence, and they are a source of tremendous pride to their
 classmates and their many supporters in the local community; now,
 therefore, be it
 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas
 Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby congratulate the DeSoto
 High School girls' track team on winning the 2017 UIL 6A state
 championship and extend to its members sincere best wishes for the
 future; and, be it further
 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
 prepared for the team as an expression of high regard by the Texas
 House of Representatives.
