 R E S O L U T I O N
 WHEREAS, Health centers play a vital role in the communities
 they serve by delivering high quality, cost-effective, and
 accessible primary and preventive care to all patients, regardless
 of their ability to pay; and
 WHEREAS, Located in medically underserved areas, health
 centers are the principal source of care for over 24 million
 Americans; through more than 9,000 delivery sites across the
 nation, these facilities provide treatment to 1 out of every 13
 people living in the United States, and every center is governed by
 locally controlled patient-majority boards, making them responsive
 to the individual needs of their community; and
 WHEREAS, Texas community health centers care for more than
 1.2 million people at over 450 delivery sites in 122 counties; in
 addition, these centers employ more than 9,500 Texans on a
 full-time equivalent basis and generate over $1.4 billion in
 economic activity each year; and
 WHEREAS, Established in 1973, United Medical Centers
 annually help to meet the needs of nearly 30,000 patients in Eagle
 Pass, Del Rio, Brackettville, and surrounding areas; UMC clinics
 offer a broad range of services, including pediatric care, family
 medicine, well-woman and obstetric care, dentistry, laboratory and
 radiology, family planning, nutrition counseling, pharmacy, and
 more, which are provided on a sliding fee scale to ensure that no
 patient is ever turned away due to lack of funds; and
 WHEREAS, The occasion of National Health Center Week on
 August 13-19, 2017, represents a welcome opportunity to honor
 United Medical Centers and the many dedicated staff and board
 members who have contributed greatly to its mission to build
 stronger, healthier communities; now, therefore, be it
 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas
 Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby honor the staff and
 leadership of United Medical Centers on the occasion of National
 Health Center Week 2017, and extend to all those associated with UMC
 sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it further
 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
 prepared for United Medical Centers as an expression of high regard
 by the Texas House of Representatives.
